LifeCenter’s 2018 Community Breakfast Touches Hearts and Honors Outstanding Donate Life Champions

LifeCenter’s 2018 Community Breakfast was held on November 15th at the Schiff Cintas Center at Xavier University. With over 500 guests in attendance, LifeCenter was proud to honor our Champion for Life, Theo E. Smith, and outstanding Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) award winners. Honorees were recognized for their incredible efforts to save lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.

We had many wonderful nominees for these awards and it is clear that we have amazing support throughout our communities for this life-saving mission.

The Champion for Life Awards:
Lauren Dick, Transplant Social Worker at UC Health; and
Diana Hughes, Application Coordinator at Mercy Fairfield

The Theo E. Smith Award Winner:
Alexis Rogers of WLWT for her outstanding journalism on donation

Donate Life Hospital Champion Winner:
UC Health

UC Health, Adams County Regional Medical Center, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and Mercy Health West were presented with Platinum HRSA awards. We also recognized additional health systems at the Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels.

We also featured two very special guest speakers this year, Laurie Ryan and Debbie Wieland. Laurie is the mother of Reese Ryan, and shared Reese’s powerful story of receiving the Gift of Life through a life-saving heart transplant. Debbie is the donor mom of Richard “Ricky” Wieland, Jr. Debbie and her husband, Rick, continue to honor Ricky’s precious Gifts and legacy through LifeCenter’s Wieland Heartbeat Bear program.

Finally, we unveiled LifeCenter’s 2019 calendar. The theme of the 2019 calendar is “The Story.” In this 16th installment, calendar participants submitted written expressions of giving, grace, and gratitude. The common thread in their letters is Donation and Transplantation, which is seen from every aspect throughout this year’s calendar. Thank you to Harris Media Co and Durham Brand & Co. for bringing this year’s project to life. Learn more about our 2019 Calendar Participants in our accompanying video.

Congratulations to all of our Donate Life champions! Thank you for all that you do to advance our mission.
